There were moments where it was taking me quite some time to understand certain aspects, Matt was very patient and able to approach the blocks I ran into through so many different ways that eventually it made sense.

On top of being a great instructor and genuinely fun person to spend time with, his photography is out of this world! When I saw the images, I was completely blown away. Next level stuff.

Excellent communication with Kiki right from the start regarding W1 course during my short time in Tulum. It was a very well structured course that included both pool and cenote sessions, and video reviews at the end of the day to see what could be improved. That was important to me as I do not have easy access to open water and would like a way to continue practicing back home.

Matt would also make sure to know your objective/goal (besides passing the course) and give you advice on that. Every time my husband and I had a question, he was able to breakdown his answer so that laymen like us could understand. You can tell he knows his stuff, and to have such a confident yet nurturing instructor in the water with us gave us the assurance that we'll be safe and ok. It's hard to feel discouraged in his presence.

Many things to appreciate- the good weather during our course, Matt's underwater videography/photography skills, his teaching methods which included a good mix of technology and visuals, his cute cat, but most of all, a truly unique experience with the different cenotes you get to freedive in that I'd have trouble finding anywhere else!

I took my Wave level 1 with Matt over a weekend and had an incredible time, learned a ton, and... read more came away feeling strong and confident in my Freediving. I had done a bit of recreational freediving on my own, but was very glad I did Wave 1.

We started with going through a lot of the physics and physiology of freediving, which was super helpful in understanding the mechanics of what makes a successful dive. Then we spent the remainder of day 1 and the beginning of day 2 with a decent amount of pool work to practice that theory. Matt was super thorough but also encouraging all the way through, making sure that we moved at the appropriate speed for my level.

Day 2 and 3 we spent at two separate cenotes, and to say they were absolutely beautiful would be a gross understatement. We went to El Pitt, which had crystal clear water and is surrounded by stalactites, which were home to many cute bats. On day 3 we went to Angelita, which had slightly cloudier water due to the sediment near a very cool halocline.

I cannot recommend this course and this teacher enough. I had an incredible experience and will be back. Thanks for all the coaching and support, Matt!

All of his gear is new and in great condition, and he shares the best resources and tips so that you can go home and continue making progress on your own. I am an advanced scuba diver and have never received such thorough training in the past I can attest to the effort and care Matt puts into his students. I will definitely be back next year for my Wave 2!

The classroom and pool sessions were just as enjoyable as the dive itself and I learnt heaps. I was tentative about my ability but with his direction was plesantly surprised at what I was able to achieve. I still have plenty to work on but it was an amazing experience in a really special part of the world. Don't hesitate to book in some freediving with Cenote Freediving, you won't regret it (I certainly don't!)
