El Matt is a true master at what he does, not only is he an accomplished competitor but you can tell he is truly passionate about coaching and giving his... read more students the best knowledge and insight into how to improve their freediving and break through barriers on so many fronts. I was a fairly experienced diver (or so I thought) when I came to Matt and had never done a Molchanovs course but I managed to complete the Wave 3 course (with the best dive Buddy, Effie) under the tutelage of Matt.
He really understands how to tailor his teaching to each of his students to help them grasp some of the tougher concepts and techniques especially when it comes to Equalisation, if you’re having trouble with deep frenzel and mouthfill then Matt is your guy, you won’t find better coaching for it, that is his speciality. It’s one of the main reasons I decided to do the Wave 3 with him, he is very thorough and we covered a lot of content and skills in the week of training. It has helped me to really formalise my understanding of the gaps in my knowledge of freediving. I walked away from the Wave 3 course with a plethora of new exercises, knowledge, techniques that I can now employ and practice to help me go further in my freediving journey.
Thank you Matt (and Kiki, Kylo and Oćeane). I’ll be back for more cenote freediving soon ️

I completed the Molchanovs Wave 1 course with Cenote Freediving, and I couldn't have hoped for a better experience.
Matt teaches the Molchanovs courses, which I believe is the... read more most comprehensive freediving certification with a big focus on the technical details and doing things right from the beginning.
I felt very relaxed and comfortable with Matt throughout the entire course. This is absolutely key when freediving. He is calm and easy-going and is very passionate about freediving and teaching. He also has a clear love for wildlife and nature, which is nice to see.
His explanations were very clear, and were accompanied by video examples and anatomical models to develop understanding. He also places a big emphasis on correct equalisation technique from the get-go, which is paramount, and this allows you to focus your attention on other aspects, such as finning and body position, when it comes to the Free Immersion and Constant Weight dives.
I was provided with high-quality gear that was in perfect condition, with plenty of size options to get the perfect fit. The pool training areas and classroom were nice and peaceful, providing a very comfortable environment for learning. Although, you may occasionally be distracted in the classroom by an adorable cat named Lola (see image for confirmation of cuteness). The Open Water dive locations, the cenotes, were beautiful and are the perfect locations for beginners as there is good visibility and no current. You also get to see the cenotes in a way that most people never will.
In addition to Matt's feedback throughout the sessions, the video analysis was extremely helpful to understand how your body position looks relative to how it feels, greatly aiding with making suitable adjustments/corrections (plus, you get some cool videos of your freediving adventure).
The booking process with Kiki was straightforward, and her responses were prompt and very informative about the course options provided, costs and day-to-day schedules of the courses. She was also very friendly and chatty when we met in person.
I highly recommend doing a course with Cenote Freediving, and hope to return myself some time. Doing this course with Cenote Freediving has made me very excited to continue my freediving journey.

I had an amazing time diving with Matt. I had had a previous injury that affected my ears and balance, and Matt was incredible at helping me identify what was... read more going on. His knowledge of physiology, theory and the science of freediving made all the difference in the world. He is a calm and reassuring presence with deep insight and intuitive advice. It's clear that he is not only passionate about diving, but about coaching and helping his students progress.
Kiki (Kylo + Oceane) are all amazing as well. It was so beautiful to be around such a loving family.
I progressed my diving this trip, made new friends, and got some beautiful under water shots from Matt (his photos are unreal!). It checked all the boxes! Highly recommend and can't wait to come back!

I went to Cenote Freediving to pass my Molchanovs Wave 3 requirements, and generally improve my freediving skills.
Matt has been a fantastic and extremely knowledgeable trainer during the course... read more -- knowledge is what you would expect from a ~100m diver, but not everyone has the methodology, patience and empathy to do so: he certainly does.
He makes sure to put together a course that allows us to pass all requirements safely and confidently (this isn't always the case everywhere, in an effort to cram more students in), and limits the number of students per session to ensure everyone is provided with enough attention.
The gear provided was in great condition, in fact the one I was given was brand new -- again not always a given in some diving centres.
Travel restrictions made me miss the first day of the course, and the school allowed me to make up for it the week after, which was greatly appreciated too.
Then there is what you would expect from diving in the cenotes: magical conditions. The school being located in Tulum gives us access to great nearby cenotes. At a certain level, depth limitation can become an issue in certain cenotes (30-40m), but that wouldn't be a problem for most divers, and some cenotes still allow for a 70-80m depth.
Last, Matt is a renown photographer with lots of experience shooting in Cenotes, so if budget allows, be sure you sign up for one of his photo shoots. That's a fun experience and it makes for great memories to bring home with you!

I had the pleasure of going to Tulum to train. Matt knowledge was invaluable and helped me to surpass my previous personal best. I can’t recommend his services... read more enough. I will be coming back in the future for sure and would recommend any of my dive friends to do the same

Cenote freediving is as good a school as you will ever find in the freediving world. The level of preparation and organisation that Matt puts into his courses makes it... read more easy for his students to focus solely on becoming better freedivers. Its not often you get to learn from someone who has competed at the top of their field but also has an incredible skill for communicating and teaching. I completed my Wave 3 master course with Matt and he was almost like a father figure for our cohort, direct and clear when he needed to be but also nurturing and compassionate as we struggled with new skills. He has a fantastic ability to spot individual issues and tailors his approach accordingly. Super cool guy with a beautiful family. The force is strong.
My only concern is that it is now going to be very difficult for any school I dive with to live up to the experience of cenote freediving!
If you have never freedived before or even if you more experienced, this is the school to learn from and to explore the cenotes with. I have video footage and memories from my course which I will treasure (when your instructor is an award winning under water photographer...). I expect to be back one day.

I went to Cenote Freediving for my Molchanovs certifications, from basic to advanced. I’ve had many experience with other schools and instructors, however, so far this has been the... read more best learning and diving experience I’ve had. Matt is an extremely knowledgeable and very precise in his teaching style. He never misses the opportunity to improve students technic and promote safe diving habits.

I have so many good things to say about Cenote Freediving! I first went diving with Matt over a year ago, and only for a day. In that... read more day I learned so much and had such a good time I knew I’d have to come back for more, and I did. This time I spent my entire trip to Mexico diving with Matt and it’s one of the best vacations I have ever had. Not only did I get to see different beautiful cenotes everyday, but everyday I was challenged to learn and push myself. Matt is as good of an instructor as you’ll ever get, and he had me making new accomplishments and new personal bests every day. I went from a max depth of 18 meters to a max of 28. He is very intuitive in finding what you’re struggling with and giving good feedback and advice to help you push past it. I really enjoyed having videos of my dives which we could review after the fact. Did I mention that he’s a stellar photographer? Thanks to Matt, the whole experience was captured beautifully, and I’ll always have beautiful images to remind me of what I’m passionate about.

I completed my Wave 1 with Cenote Freediving and will be back ASAP to finish my Wave 2 & 3 courses. Matt and team are incredible. As somebody with very... read more little knowledge of freediving before this experience, I’ve learned so much from this trip. Learning new skills/trying new things can be daunting for me. Matt was superbly patient with me, and such a wellspring of knowledge. If you’re considering learning how to freedive, Matt and Cenote Freediving is the place to do it (hands down). As somebody who has always been interested in freediving but hasn’t had the guts to actually learn until now, this whole experience has been (not to be dramatic) life changing!

This was myself and my partners second free diving course, after the first one didn't really blow us away. We actually decided first up to do a day of fun... read more diving and after the day diving in the Cenotes with instructor Shaun, we re-arranged our travel plans and stayed another 3 days in Tulum in order to do the Molcahnov course cross over because we loved it so much. During the course our instructor had a lovely energy with the perfect balance between encouraging the best from us but also ensuring no matter what safety was a priority (this included repeated dives at comfortable depths, lots of EQ training on dry land, lanyard use and correct buddying procedures). Shaun was also right next to me on all of my dives which I found very reassuring during the learning process. Our dry and static sessions were also phenomenal with lots of great visualisation and relaxation tricks to help with overcoming the negative emotions associated with uncomfortably long breath holds and at the end of the course Shaun suggested some options for ongoing training which I really appreciated.
With regards to the Cenotes we visited, they were absolutely beautiful (especially Cenote Angelita), with lovely calm surface conditions, no current, 30+m visibility and warm sunny weather. Cenote freediving provided very high quality wetsuits, fins, masks etc and we were super comfortable the whole time.
Lastly, Matt and Kiki (the owners) were extremely fast to respond to us and actually made arrangements to squeeze us in with only 1 day notice for the freediving course. In addition all the instructors went above and beyond for us and made us feel like they really wanted us to enjoy the experience as much as possible.
All the instructors at Cenote Freediving are extremely proficient freedivers with plenty of experience teaching and this really shows! I especially liked how safety focussed they were at all times.
Overall this was an amazing experience and inspired both of us to do wave 2 and 3 as a result of this experience.
Thanks to the Cenote Free Diving Team we hope we cross paths again!
